SUMMARY:Direct-Seeded Rice: Maximizing Efficiency and Sustainability
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our 7th session under Knowledge Spectrum Series (KSS)\, jointly by us and the Centre for Sustainable Agriculture (CSA)\nPlease scroll down for the details\nContext\nRice is life\, more than 65% of people depend on rice as a staple food and more than 35% of cropped area is under rice. At the same time\, rice consumes the highest amount of water and fertilisers and has a significant impact on the environment. The water consumption is nearly 60 lakhs lit/acre and nearly 5000 lit kg of rice. The stagnated water results in methane and nitrous oxide from fertilisers are responsible for a high GHG footprint of about 10 tons of carbon equivalent per acre per season. Also\, puddling is done to prevent infiltration and destroys soil structure. In this context shifting towards sustainable rice production is essential. Direct-seeded rice is one such initiative to grow rice without puddling and stagnated water. \nAgainst this backdrop\, join the discussion with Dr G Rajashekar\, an agricultural scientist from the Centre for Sustainable Agriculture\, with more than 20 years of experience in organic farming and establishing seed systems. We will address the challenges in cultivating rice crops and how direct-seeded rice can address those challenges. Our aim is to explore how we can transform the challenges into an opportunity. \n \nClick on the above image to go to the registration link.\nSession will be LIVE on both\, Zoom and YouTube. The Zoom link will be shared through your registered email ids. Thanks

SUMMARY:Transition to Organic/Natural Farming: Issues and Challenges
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our 6th Session under ‘Knowledge Spectrum Series’\nGoing LIVE on both\, Zoom and YouTube channels\, tomorrow 1st July from 3:00 to 5:00 pm IST. Those who cannot join through Zoom ID\, please click here for the YouTube link \nPlease register yourself for the session. Scroll down for details\n \n\n\nThe rising consumer demand for safe and healthy food\, coupled with the urgent challenges posed by climate change\, has propelled organic and natural farming to the forefront of policy discussions. This transition towards organic farming is currently underway\, but numerous questions still linger regarding certain aspects: \n\nYield Penalties: One major concern is whether yields will decline during the transition to organic farming. Understanding the potential impact on productivity is crucial for farmers considering this shift.\nCertification and Labeling: The influence of certification and labelling systems on retail marketing and consumer choices is another significant aspect. How these systems are implemented and communicated can greatly affect the perception and uptake of organic products in the market.\nSupport Systems: Farmers require adequate support systems to successfully transition to organic farming. Identifying and providing the necessary resources\, knowledge\, and assistance can facilitate a smooth and effective transition.\n\nIf you have an interest in organic farming\, or if you are an entrepreneur or producer collective aiming to enter the organic food marketing space\, we invite you to join us for an insightful discussion on the challenges and opportunities involved in transitioning to organic farming. \nLeading this discussion will be Dr GV Ramanjaneyulu\, an experienced agriculture scientist with over 20 years of expertise in promoting organic farming\, developing organic certification systems\, and building sustainable supply chains.

SUMMARY:Reviving Rural Economy: Learnings from the NGGB Initiative\, Chhattisgarh
DESCRIPTION:This session is over. Please scroll down for the context\, session video and the summary\nContext\nREVIVING RURAL ECONOMY: Learnings from the Narwa\, Garuwa\, Ghuruwa\, Badi (NGGB) Initiative in Chhattisgarh \nGram Swaraj – an idea of the self-reliant village is a unique concept of rural reconstruction proposed by Mahatma Gandhi\, JC Kumarappa et.al much before India’s independence. \nThe Rural Industrial Parks Initiative (https://ripa.cgstate.gov.in/) is one such initiative by the Chhattisgarh government. It started with the Narwa (Rivulets regeneration)\, Garuwa (Cattle conservation)\, Ghuruwa (Biodynamic Compost pit)\, and Badi (Backyard nutritional) (NGGB) programme as an integrated and multidimensional model of village development\, through coverage of a range of issues\, beginning from the importance of water resources to agriculture\, the productivity of the land and addressing the nutritional needs of people. \nThe discussion was with Shri Pradeep Sharma\, Planning and Policy Advisor to the Hon. Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and learn about the scheme and how a rural economy is revived. \nYouTube link for this session\nThe Summary of this Session

SUMMARY:Weather anomalies and preparedness for kharif season
DESCRIPTION:This session is over. Scroll down for the context and the summary\nContext\nClimate change-induced weather anomalies on one side and the shifts in cropping patterns and production practices on the other have increased the risk in agriculture. Neither the risk mitigation efforts nor the risk coverage mechanisms seem to be working pushing farmers into crisis.\nIn this context\, we are bringing you a discussion with renowned scientist Dr Anand Sharma\, Ex Additional DG / Scientist-G\, Indian Meteorological Department to share how we can adapt to these changes and how appropriate weather advisories can reduce the risk in agriculture in this era of climate change.\n\n\nKrishna Sudha Academy for Agroecology Grameen Academy\nKnowledge Spectrum Series (KSS)\, session 2 was done on 3rd June 2023\, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Zoom.\n\nSummary of the Session
