Large Area Certification/बृहद क्षेत्र प्रमाणीकरण अंतर्गत – 2nd Batch
We are happy to be associated as an active partner in making district of Dantewada, Chhattisgarh to go fully organic. Efforts began in 2016 by the district administration, Nirmaan Organization. A farmer producer organisation, Bhoomgaadi Organic FPC was formed. Centre for Sustainable Agriculture joined the process as PGS Regional council to certify under Large Area Certification (LAC). Under Large Area Certification (LAC) a village can be declared as Organic and certified based on three conditions.
- All farmers are following organic/natural farming practices and do not use any agrochemicals and GMOs and takes a pledge to continue,
- Gramsabha makes a resolution that agrochemical use in the village is not allowed and
- the (State) Department of Agriculture declares that there are no shops permitted to sell agrochemicals in the village.
After proper field verification, in 2022, 110 villages with 10,264 farmers and 65,279 ha (1,63,197.50 acres) of land is declared as organic. This is the first time, a mainland agriculture area in India is declared as organic on such a large scale. We have another 110 villages in the district which still have some agrochemical use and would be reaching the entire district in the next two years.
This series of trainings is part of converting these remaining 110 villages.
